About the Customer
Benderson Family Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation is a non-profit, faith-basedcommunity that includes a 45-bed skilled nursing home.
Challenge
As a small, independent facility with no corporatesupport, the Benderson facility had been strugglingto comply with increasing CMS regulations. Theywanted to increase their Five Star Rating from twoto five, while improving quality of care and otherperformance indicators effectively and efficiently.
Solution
They were interested in implementing HealthStream Quality Manager because it had several valuable features,including Facility Assessment, QAPI Plan, MockSurvey, and Investigations. Having utilizedconsultants for mock surveys and other support,HealthStream Quality Manager also offered a level of ease and guidancethat was greatly needed, while reducing the costof regulatory compliance.
Results
The ability to conduct their own mock surveyswas not only effective for compliance, but also agreat learning experience for everyone involved.Rigorous scoring is utilized in the mock surveysand investigations, leading to improvementsin quality of care and performance, as wellas positive feedback from the internal surveyteam. As a result, the facility's Overall Star Ratingincreased from two to five in three years, includinga deficiency-free survey in 2020.
